The kitchen is the next room to be rehabbed after the office. The first thing to do, since the kitchen is still in use, is
to move all the appliances to the library so I can cook there. This was easy enough with the stove and refrigerator. But the kitchen sink was a different matter. It is connected to the water supply and also to the sewer system. Those are not available in the library. I solved the problem by building a temporary freestanding stand for the sink which I could remove and replace easily and leaving the water and sewer connections in place. So I remove it while working and reinstall when finished. You can see the old sink top left, the connections top right, and the temporary sink, removed to the office, at left.

The thin sheet of plywood on the floor had to be removed, exposing the subfloor below. There was no finished floor. Many of the subfloor boards will have to be replaced as will some of the wall boards and may ceiling boards, having much termite damage. But first the old paint must be removed and the walls, and ceiling sanded.

At left you can see the missing subfloor board where the water and sewer connections enter. Above you can see where some boards were replaced altgether in earlier years where the refrigerator was. It was probably leaking and caused some rot. There are also various smaller holes in the subfloor. All this must be replaced. There is some water damage on the ceiling boards. The baseboard had to be removed as well.

Pix of the ceiling: rot, water damage, old paint, previous plastic wood fixes. The water damage is from the leaking roof. I need a
new roof but that is not in the budget right now. I have been up making bandaid fixes with roll roofing and roof patch. Most of the leaks are stopped, although I would not say fixed. A new roof is needed as well as termite tenting. It was last tented in 2006.
